The Legacy

For 40 years, Herbie’s father, Fred Sevier

(the eponymous Big Papa),

ran the truck in Augusta, Arkansas,

before passing away from cancer in 2019.

Meet
Herbie & Amy

Food is about a lot more than just eating, it’s about family, and sharing love with others.

Big Papa BBQ is a family-owned and operated business, led by the dynamic duo of Herbie and Amy. With a passion for BBQ and a love for family, they've built a food truck and catering business that's as delicious as it is welcoming. When you choose Big Papa BBQ, you're choosing to be a part of our family.

Love is all you need.

“One of the things my father-in-law was known for was just being a huge community man,” Amy said. “He never judged anyone, he always served everybody with so much love. I feel like what we’ll be carrying on is that same love.” - Amy

Following Fred’s footsteps, the Seviers want to be all about community. Connecting with customers and sharing love through food and conversation is what they see as the spirit of Big Papa. Fred lived a full life and was a wonderful example of God’s love and grace to five children, twenty grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Praying Together

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

From our family to yours

Big Papa

“My dad was a big man, and he was the neighborhood community Dad.  Since he was a big man, they just kinda called him Big Papa and that stuck with him.” - Herbie

Fred (Big Papa) Sevier, born in 1946 in Augusta, Arkansas, was a man of immense faith and heart. Profoundly committed to Christ from a young age, his faith shaped his life. After graduating from George Washington Carver High School, Fred joined the Army, serving as an Infantryman and Mess Specialist during the Vietnam War. He continued his service in the Army National Guard until 1992.

In 2010, Fred retired from Union Pacific Railroad, having made a significant impact in his career. Beyond his professional life, he was an active member of the American Legion, a Mason, and a passionate fisher. Fred dedicated countless hours to perfecting his famous BBQ sauce, mustard slaw, homemade sausage, fried catfish, ribs, and rib tips. His belief that everyone should be able to serve their families was reflected in his prices and his service to the community for over 40 years, one meal at a time.

Fred Sevier, known to many as Big Papa, was truly a cornerstone of his community.
